Akira Inami (Shun Oguri) is a former Self-Defense Force member. He was emotionally scarred by a special mission and subsequently discharged from the Self-Defense Force. Now, Akira Inami works for a secret Special Investigation Team at the National Police Agency. Meanwhile, Saburo Tamaru (Hidetoshi Nishijima) is kind and stoic. He used to go on special missions, but due to an incident was ordered to join the Special Investigation Team. With Akira Inami, Saburo Tamaru and other members, the Special Investigation Team tackles important political matters and dirty jobs for the government.
Jun Jonochi (Mirei Kiritani) works at a paper manufacturing company. She is earnest, but clueless about her own appearance. She doesn't have any interest in making herself look good. One day, she realizes that people don't view her as other women. She begins to read up on things like make-up and fashion trends with her two female colleagues.
Hatoko (Mikako Tabe) goes back to her hometown of Kamakura for the first time in 8 years. She has inherited her grandmother's store "Tsubaki Stationery Store." The store actually functions to write beautiful letters on behalf of its clients. At first, Hatoko, being new to the business, seems like a rookie, but she begins to display her talent for writing letters. She gets more requests.
The story is based on the life of fashion designer Koshino Ayako, who passed away in 2006 at the age of 92. Although she was a successful designer in Japan, she also single-handedly raised three daughters who followed in her footsteps to become internationally known designers, named Hiroko, Junko, and Michiko.
Ono's character in the drama, modeled after Koshino, is named Ohara Itoko. She will play the character from her teenage years to her fifties. The story is set in the Kansai region, but Ono will have no problem with the dialect since she is originally from Nara.
Makoto Masaki (Kazuya Kamenashi) and Haruko Kogetsu (Fumino Kimura) are both 29 years old and single. Since they were children, they have passed each other at various places like on the beach and shrines. Yet, the two are not aware of each other at all. One day, a man appears in front of Makoto Masaki and introduces himself as God. He tells Makoto Masaki about his destined soul mate and that she works next door. When he faces Haruko Kogetsu, he tells her "I'm your destiny."
Kazuhisa Fukase (Tatsuya Fujiwara) graduated from a prestigious university, but he leads a boring life. His only strength is making delicious coffee. Whenever he makes coffee, he is reminded of his friend Yoshiki Hirosawa (Teppei Koike). He was friends with Yoshiki Hirosawa back in their university days, but Yoshiki Hirosawa died on a snowboarding trip 10 years ago.
One day, he meets Mihoko Ochi (Erika Toda) at a coffee shop. He is strongly attracted to her.
Nori Kamitsuki (Shotaro Mamiya) is a high school student. He transferred to a school in Gunma Prefecture. There, he learns of various culture in Gunma from a student who loves his hometown. He is really surprised by the cultural difference. At school, Nori Kamitsuki falls in love with Kyo Shinooka. Unfortunately, she loves her hometown and says she will only date a guy from Gunma. Making things worse, Nori Kamitsuki gets involved at a fight against Tochigi Prefecture and Ibaraki Prefecture which are Gunma’s rivals.
